Drawing a set of fineline black and gray tattoo designs. This is sheet #1.

I was raised as a tattooist on this kind of tattooing.
It is great to see it come back 20 years later. Funny how it all comes around. When I moved to Los Angeles in 2003, I never did script or much black and gray work. Let me tell you, working in southern California, you will learn to do this kind of tattooing. I was happy to get away from it when I moved to Portland. Everyone here wanted color traditional work. Now, I see young tattooists posting fineline black and gray work all the time. It is nice to see....

So I figured i would throw my hat in the ring with the cool kids and see it the old man still has it.

I am heavily influenced by Jack Rudy, Brian Everett and Boog (RIP) When I was coming up, those guys were my idols and their work sang to me. These designs are referenced from their old tattoo designs.

FYI, all are available for tattooing and i have nothing going on through the new year. Come get tattooed!

Or as a friend once said, "I can tell the skill of a tattooist by the quality of their lettering. Why? Because there is no room for error."

I was raised on a steady diet of fine line black and gray tattooing, working my first few years in Los Angeles. Tribal and lettering every day. Some weeks, I never touched a color.

I have never been much of a specialist. I became a tattooist because I can draw almost anything and adapt artistically to a variety of styles. A close musician friend once said, "Tattooists are the rock stars of the art world." I couldn't agree more.

Some tattooists write a hit and play that tune to financial success, over and over. Others turn everything they touch into gold. Most of us are journeyman artists. Playing any tune you want. Sometimes busking on a corner for the nights meal. You want it done right; find a journeyman tattooist.

I have a lot of availability these days. No appointments are booked for the week between x-mas ansld new year. So that means i am available for you! Come get one of these designs or let me draw something custom for you.

Chieko is the widow of a tattooist i was friends with over social media. Tony had contacted me in 2020 about working at Freaks And Geeks Tattoo Studio He explained his wife was from Portland and they wanted to move back here from New Orleans.

Tony was in his 50's and a street shop tattooist. For one reason or another, the move never happened. Tony and I became friends over social media and we talked over the phone. He was one of those people I felt a kinship with. Same age. Street shop tattooists with big black glasses.

Unfortunately, Tony passed away, suddenly and out of the blue. It was shocking to hear the news. I didn't know much about Tony's world. Chieko reached out to me over social media to tell me what happened and vowed to visit the studio to meet.

Yesterday was the day. It was really nice to meet and tattoo Chieko. To find out more about Tony. Although I feel we spent more time getting to know one another.

It was an honor to meet you, Chieko, and tattoo you. I am so sorry for your loss. Rest is Peace, Tony.

I have nothing new to post. So hear is a flashback to 2010 and that time, i tattooed a walk in.

All the other tattooists had left at 6 pm. I always stayed until 8 pm. Staying late has it's privelages.
